The Brief …

To convert the existing static html website to WordPress and make some improvements to the design and usability.

The Solution …

The Shropshire Live website was already very well established and receiving approximately 10,000 hits a month. However, they had no content management so were building the pages in HTML on a daily basis.

They needed a solution that would allow them to easily add content with as much freedom as they had when creating HTML pages. As part of the conversion, they also wanted to improve on the design without having a complete re brand.

The new site was built on WordPress Multi User, giving them the flexibility to expand in the future.

The new site features:

  • Focus area on the homepage allowing them to feature news items from anywhere on the website.
  • The ability to change the header image on any page.
  • Footer area that automatically displays the most recent item from specific areas on the website, encouraging people to click through to read other items.
  • Recent posts, recent comments and twitter feed in footer area promoting the community element of Shropshire Live.
  • Enews signup form on every page that submits with no need for the page to refresh.
  • The ability to embed video and custom forms easily through the CMS so that competitions can be run.
  • Custom Business directory, allowing both standard and premium listings.
  • Advertising specific to each page and section.

What They Say ...

In May 2010 we began the process of moving shropshirelive.com to a new content management system and a subtle refresh of the design.

We did not want to change the design completely but make subtle changes whilst knowing we could update and build upon the design in the future.

We spoke to a number of web designers and whilst they were perfectly good companies we needed reassurance that we could work closely with their teams. After being introduced to Kirsty Burgoine, we instantly knew that Kirsty would be the best person to help take the shropshirelive.com website forward.

Kirsty, visited us many times to discuss progress of the design and build along with helping us understand what ideas we had that would and would not work in the design process.

Kirsty, not only gave her time to talk with us in person and on the phone but also via email at various times of the day when we had questions and came up with new ideas for the site.

Since launching the new version of shropshirelive.com, our traffic has doubled and continues to increase. We are delighted to have chosen Kirsty Burgoine to carry out our design refresh and website build. In fact I have already recommended Kirsty to several other companies.

If you want a website and need someone there for every step of the journey from design to launch and even post launch help and advice, then I can’t recommend Kirsty enough.
